NEW template Henri Launches!

WPPI Here We Come!!

NEXT WEEK (WPPI WEEK - March 7th-12th)

Jamie and I (and our husbands who were kind enough to take off of their work and help us that week) will be working the Portfoliositez.com booth. This means that we get to finally meet some of our wonderful clients! The down side is that we are a small company and losing two of us at once will affect setup times and responses to tickets. This means we may take the full 2-3 business days we ask for the setups and a full 1 business day for a response to a ticket or possibly a little longer. Our goal is to still provide fast and efficient help, and though Tammie, James, and Don are rock stars at answering questions fast they are only human ;-)

If there are any issues that require my (Jen) or Jamie’s attention we will try to get to them no later then Monday, the 15th. Your understanding for the delayed responses is greatly appreciated!

Happy (Belated) Birthday Stephanie!!!

We have been so busy with the new templates we are working on and getting ready for WPPI we forgot to wish Stephanie a very happy birthday on Monday, March 1st.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :-)

Stephanie is our newest team member and she is helping us with billing. Feel free to wish her a happy birthday if you receive a response from her this week.

To have… or not to have (phone support)

We’ve gotten some feedback lately that we should have phone support. We thought this might be a good topic for a blog post :-)

The main reason we have decided against phone support is because we find we answer issues quicker over the ticketing system. With phone support you are limited to talking to a couple people who may or may not understand your issue. With the ticketing system we have our programmers (including me) joining in to answer questions that are more complex or require extensive testing. We feel this is important because with a web based company almost all questions/problems require testing on our end to re-create the issue and then figure out why it is happening.  Instead of wasting your time putting you on hold over and over again we want you to feel comfortable submitting your problem/question to us and resting assured we are working on it and will let you know when it is resolved. The tickets we receive can range from a quick 5 minute answer to a complex full day of testing to re-create and troubleshoot.

The second reason we don’t offer phone support is because of the cost. Right now we have our costs streamlined by keeping overhead down which allows us to pass on the savings to you. This is how we can keep our prices so low. :-) If we offered phone support it would require us to increase prices to cover additional team members trained in phone support. Trust me- I am as awkward as it comes on the phone, you don’t want to talk to me ;-)

That being said our goal from the beginning was to offer a product and service unmatched that truly shows our clients how much we appreciate their business. We never want our clients to feel we are unreachable. We do call clients if there are any billing questions since that is usually very sensitive information. We are willing to add phone support if it is something that our clients would like, and change our pricing appropriately.

So, now for the fun part :-) We have created a poll to see if this is something our clients would like added to their service. Please feel free to leave your feedback and vote!

    I feel like you guys are so on top of things by email, there isn’t a need for phone contact. Every time I’ve emailed with a question or problem, I’ve gotten a super fast response and help.

    I agree with no phone support, I’ve always had fast communication via email even when my bandwidth went down every week for a month :) I figure if it was ever an issue we couldn’t figure out, you’d give me a call to try and explain it again and work through it that way. I also am super awkward on the phone so I wouldn’t use it anyway!

    Normally I get agitated when a company doesn’t have support. But you guys have always been so on top of things that it doesn’t bother me at all. And your prices are one of the main reasons Ive been with you for so long. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! lol

    Personally, I think my trouble shooting (which isn’t often) with you all is best communicated via email. Just like you all, I don’t have time to wait on the phone. So ‘no’ to the phone. :)

    I will start with this; I don’t know “jack” about HTML, Flash or setting up websites but when I bite the bullet and placed an order for my website through your company (because of the low cost and excellent Cus Serv reviews), the setup was so smooth that only one question surfaced regarding my email accounts. The response was quick. Since then I think I only had to contact Cust Serv maybe three times. The longest I waited was five hours and that was on a weekend! I wasn’t excepting an answer until Monday. Your business model is solid just as it is.

    I don’t really need phone support and I would hate for fees to go up… But, a “live chat” type option would be nice. That would give you all the benefits of email, but allow for quick answers for quick questions. :)

    I have to agree with everyone. I usually hate companies that dont have the option to speak to someone over the phone. However, you guys always get back to me pronto and resolve my problem quickly, efficiently, and kindly. I could not be happier wit your service. Live chat wouldn’t be a bad idea like Julie said.

    What’s the difference in purchasing an add on template and template switch?

    IE; If I wanted to purchase Jackson, and I have Ansel right now, what’s the easiest way to do it, painlessly? :) How does the add on template work?

    purchasing an extra template means that you’ll want to keep both templates. This is usually done when you want to break your sites into two or more specialties such as weddings and seniors - that way you can design a site to have a certain look and feel for the target audience. It is also commonly used to add a blogsite to your flash site. If you are looking to just change templates you’ll want the one-time template switch. We will setup the new template for you in a subfolder so you can get it all ready and don’t have to worry about your current site being down while you get your new one ready. When you want to go live with your new site just let us know and we will remove your current one and set your new one live :-)

    I see no reason for phone support. Last evening I could not get to my Website from my office. I submitted a ticket. Tammie responded in less than 10 minutes. She had me do something and then got in touch with the data center. It turns out the problems is a known issue with my ISP. It was resolved within thirty minutes. Who needs a telephone for that? This has been some of the best customer service I seen in a long time.

Company News

Hi All!

It has been a real busy couple of weeks - so much going on at Portfoliositez :-)

 

NE W TEMPLATES:
First off we just wanted to let you know we are working on a couple different templates we are hoping to showcase at WPPI in about 4 weeks. Don, our other programmer, is working on his first template. I will be working on another template as well that we are planning on being done by WPPI

NEW TEAM MEMBERS:
We are trying hard to stay ahead of the curve as far as support and keeping the company running smoothly goes so we have hired two new team members. Morgan has joined us in customer service and Stephanie has joined us in billing. They are both working hard to learn the ins and outs of our company. If you get an email from Stephanie or a ticket response from Morgan feel free to welcome them :-)

JAMIE WILL BE GONE FROM FEBRUARY 4th - FEBRUARY 15th
Jamie has to go in for a medical surgery today (the 4th) and will be out for recovery until the 15th.  We wish her a safe surgery and a speedy recovery. As you may know Jamie is our operations manager and in charge of keeping this company running. Stephanie will be stepping in to help cover some of Jamie’s tasks, and I will be covering the others. During this time we ask for some understanding if the response times for billing inquiries take a little longer - Jamie has made an art out of running this company so it may be hard to keep up with the response times she provides :-)  We will try our best and whatever we come across that requires Jamie’s attention she will look at when she returns.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE GENERATION 2 TEMPLATES:

We have gotten rid of a couple features and added many features for these templates. There are too many to outline every one but there are a couple that should be mentioned :-)

NO LONGER
- there are no longer client sites with the generation 2 templates. This is because we built in a jukebox per client for the main site and we are also going to be creating a mini client site stand-alone product this year that will be much more intuitive and have more designs to use :-)  
- we have removed the email / newsletter database list - it was an outdated feature that not many people were using and caused un-necessary confusion
- saving multiple favorites from the cart. We found that this caused a lot of people a headache trying to explain it so we have replaced it with an autosave favorites per client password. That means whenever a client logins they will automatically see their favorites and won’t have to worry about saving or loading them
 
NEW
- 231 advanced settings in the ‘Advanced settings’ section where you can edit all the small tweaks such as font size, spacing, wording, whether links open in external windows, etc.
- more colors (31 total) each with a description of what they control
- ability to upload the non-legacy version of google analytics as well as the verification code from Google. 
- a ’generate sitemap’ button that will generate a sitemap of what the site content
- stripped down html content that shows to search engines for crawling
- ability to have unlimited gallery sections with unlimited galleries within
- ability to upload flv video AND h.264 encoded videos with extensions *.flv, *mov,  non protected *.mp4, and *.f4v
- smart video playing that will figure out the video size or play it at the size specified in the admin
- ability to password protect each video gallery
- ability to choose to have the gallery thumbnails appear cropped or not
- splash page image links out to the first button link
- each page can be linked to directly
- clean urls for easier google crawling
- ability to add a meta title to each page in the ‘edit site menu’ section
- and, of course, the NEW front-end cart for a more user friendly experience
We are hard at work on the setups and hope to be completey through the list by tomorrow night or Wed. morning

    Definitely! The front-end cart is just an option for those who need to sell pictures to the general public like nature photographers. All galleries (proofing and non) have the option to show or hide the cart. :-)

    yes! If you’d like a font changed we can hard-code in a different font. It can be any font you would like, if we don’t have it you just need to email it to us so we can switch it out :-)

    They can be edited in the sitezadmin->general settings / colors . If you scroll all the way to the bottom (below the colors) you will see an area where you can put in the twitter and facebook links. If you remove the links then it will remove the icons from the site. :-)

Jackson Launches! :-)

Each text section can take any vertical size image - it will adjust it’s text position based on the width of the image

The new user-friendly design of the cart will allow easy adding of images to the cart. You choose what galleries (front-end or proofing) you would like it to show in

New lightbox popup feature so any thumbnail in the cart can be clicked on to see an extra large version of the image so you clients can look at the details closely. You have full control over the watermarked copyright saying that appears over the image to prevent the image being used for printing.

New jukebox has an euqualizer built in to move to the song beat that you upload

 

 

SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

 - You can now order Jackson from our site. Use the coupon 5OFFJACKSON to receive $5 off an extra template, switch, or new service purchase of Jackson. Use the coupon 25OFFJackson to receive $25 off an individual purchase of Jackson.

- We are still debugging so setups will NOT begin until Monday. We will be setting up the sites on a first come first serve basis. If there are a lot of orders then those who ordered later may be setup on Tuesday or Wed. Any rush orders from here until Monday will be setup first.

- We will be creating another sample of Jackson showing the advanced features such as the proofing, music in the galleries, and twitter and facebook links on Monday.

- If Jackson isn’t your cup of tea no worries! This is just the first of many generation 2 designs. See us at WPPI at the beginning of March to see what new designs we have to show you!

    Looks gorgeous. I see a few glitches though. I can’t click on the “children” gallery if there’s a slideshow already running. It opens the shopping cart instead. In the shopping cart, the pop up that appears when hovering over the magnifying glass for an added album extends past the right edge of my screen and you can’t scroll to see what it all says.

    Is there a way to add a “help” or instructions text within the shopping cart? I love the new features, but suspect my clients would want a bit of extra help understanding what to do…would be great if it was right there in the shopping cart dialogue box.

    Otherwise, I’m very excited to see this new design! Nice work!

    Hi Karina, thanks for the feedback! :-) I am working on debugging so I will definitely work on making the shopping cart button not active when a drop down menu is open. I will also add an advanced setting to allow you to add ‘buffer’ space to the rollover description to move it right and left as you see fit. I will look into adding a help button that will open a pop-up box that will display a paragraph of helpful information that you can set in the admin.

    I know you are working out glitches, but I can’t click on anything :-( Only page I can get is the home page. It rotates the same 3 or so photos. About, Galleries, etc…don’t seem to work.

    First, I have to say this new build-out is very promising, yay and congrats!!

    I am a little confused, however. With the front-end cart is the password protection eliminated? And, if the galleries are set as a portfolio sampling will it automatically be set with a cart?

    One more…Is the background customizable and can we change the color to white instead of showing color(s)?

    Hey Carlise! The front-end cart does not replace the proofing which will work just like our other templates with the password protected entry. The only difference is you now will have control over showing the cart in each proofing gallery for a client, as well as uploading music for each client.

    The background is customizable and can be set to an image, a color changing png, or a solid color. You also have full control over the content panel (the big rectangle) box color. On monday I will be putting together a sample that includes the proofing and a solid color theme with no changing colors. The sample will have a white content area that does not change color :-)

    Yes, we can change that to any font you would like :-) You also have the option to turn the fancy font title and the lines off in the sitezadmin

    Congrats! Looks great! I can hardly wait to see what else you have in store!!!A few questions–
    Can you turn the shopping cart off if you want to and not let them purchase online?
    Also, is there an option to pay with PayPal or does all the information just come to you and then you deal with that later?
    If you turn it off will it be turned off on the whole site or just that area?
