Meet Maya.

Posted on February 12, 2009

Our latest template, Maya, is named in honor of Maya Ying Lin.

She is most famous for creating the design for the Vietnam Memorial Wall. The design was large and simple. If you’ve ever been I’m sure you’d agree that walking the length of the Memorial seeing the 57,000+ names engraved on the wall, is an emotional experience you’d never forget. We have the utmost respect for Maya’s ability to create a design that could leave such an impact.

She has since gone on to work on many more large scale projects including the Confluence Project which is a series of outdoor installations along the Columbia River and Snake River. We wanted our template to be able to draw emotion just by the imagery uploaded to it. We kept the design minimal so that the images could make the impression on the viewer.

FAQs
Q. Can the logo be moved to the bottom?
A. Unfortunately with this particular design the logo cannot fit on the menu bar at the bottom due to the  content overlap that would occur in calendar, proofing, and gallery sections. There is a choice to have it either on the top left or top right.

Q. Can the menu bar color change?
A. The site does support full color changing functionality for the background, menu bar, and content panels.

Q. Does Maya come with the cart and proofing?
A. Maya does come with the proofing, shopping cart, mini client sites, and a video section. It does not come with a matching html site

MINI CLIENT SITES:
Each time a client is created through your sitezadmin a mini client site is automatically generated for that client. These sites can be used for anything you’d like. Some sample uses are:
1. a site for clients to view their proofs that is customized with colors and music that enhance their experience
2. a site your clients can use as a personal site for their event such as a wedding site with all their information
3. a site for clients to visit with instruction on how to order, what to wear, etc.

A mini site can have unlimited text sections. You can use the text sections for anything you’d like such as instructions for ordering, what to wear, etc. I mini client site can be used to give your clients, and their family and friends, a unique place to view their proofs. This allows you to upload music that fits their photos best, and choose colors that enhance their images.

A mini client site can be viewed from a link off your domain, such as: yourdomain.com/clients/clientname/

There is also a separate link for the admin if you wanted to give your clients control over the site. This is useful if you want to provide the site for them to use for their function such as their own personal wedding site. Through the admin they can add sections such as ‘how we met’, ‘wedding details’, etc. Then, after the event, you can set the proofing active which will make it show up on their mini site. Their friends and family can just return to the site to view and order prints. The proofing section and galleries is only editable through your main sitezadmin so you do not need to worry about your clients gaining access to them through the mini site’s admin.

Maya is on her way…

Posted on February 12, 2009

Just wanted to let you guys know that Maya is on her way out to those who ordered. We received many orders so depending on how late on the 9th (or since the 9th) your order for Maya was placed your setups may arrive tomorrow. If you didn’t receive your site by tomorrow afternoon send us a ticket so we can check on it. We are finding that our welcome emails do get caught in spam filters every once in a while so be sure to check your spam folder! :-)

I’ve decided to post our sample premium site tomorrow so I can have some more time getting it perfected before launching it. I do want to answer some of the questions we’ve received. First, the logo can appear on the left or right, but it will always appear over the images if the image is set to stretch. One thing that can be done to make it stand out it to put it on a canvas backdrop, I will have an example of a logo like this on our premium sample site. You are able to choose to have the homepage slideshow loop or not. You also have control on whether the thumbnails start out visible or to the side, and whether images stretch or not.

Let us know if you have any questions about Maya or anything else for that matter. If Maya isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry, we are already working on our next template. :-)

Welcome to the Maya pre-launch!

It’s finally here… well, sort of ;-) We are still working on tweaking the proofing and videos so the premium sample of the site will be availabe for viewing on Wed.

MAYA – http://www.portfoliositez.com/maya/

This sample features the beautiful images of Kristen Morgan (lanierstar.com). Thank you Kristen!

Some things you should know about this interface:

  • images are LARGE which means they will take a little longer to load
  • you will have control over the quality that php resizes them with – lower quality means faster loading
  • you can also pre-size/optimize them prior to upload. Photoshop does do better at optimizing then the server can, however the server optimizing is pretty good as well
  • you can have two verticals side by side on the homepage slideshow and in the galleries
  • you will have the option to turn the lines that appear to the side on the content box on/off
  • you will have the option to have your images stretch (which will mean cropping) or be sized to fit within the browser window
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

 Maya Q&A
Q. My question is regarding the thumbnails. Is there a default option to have them automatically appear on the gallery page loads? The demo shows that feature as user-activated right now. Also, is the sized-to-fit image option a default as well?
A. At this time the thumbnails do default to the closed state, however we can change this on a per request basis to default on the open state. The sized to fit option is changeable from the sitezadmin :-)

Posted on February 9, 2009

Stay tuned as we launch Maya and our two week sale later today!

PLEASE NOTE: Setups/switches for Maya will not begin until Wed and will be completed in the order they are received.

We have received a couple questions about Maya that we wanted to answer:

1. Will Maya have a mirrored html site?
A. No, unfortunately only about 50% of our sites will have mirrored html sites due to the limitations of design possibilites in html. This particular design can’t be done in html so it will not have a mirrored site.

2. How will the images display?
A. You will have a choice to have the images appear stretched to fill the entire screen or sized so that no edges are cropped by the browser’s edges.

Meet Frida…

Posted on February 8, 2009

Our fourth template, Frida, was named in honor of Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) who was a Mexican painter who used vibrant colors to create many self portraits and other beautiful works of art. She actually married Diego Rivera, who our Diego template is named after. She approached him asking advice in pursuing a career and he immediately recognized her talent. Many of her paintings were self portraits expressing her pain and experiences. More information on Frida can be found at:
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frida_Kahlo

We wanted to come up with a template that would be simple enough to really showcase very colorful art. We envisioned an artist’s room with sketches, pictures, and paintings just taped to the wall waiting to be mounted and showcased in a studio or home.

COMPANY NEWS:
- we are SOOOOOO excited that we will be launching Maya. Stay tuned tomorrow to meet Maya!

A bit about the new interface:

This interface will be our largest image interface with images to grow to the full height and width of the browser. Some key features of this template will be:

  •  LARGE images
  • ability to have the logo on the right or left
  • ability to view site in true full screen mode
  • thumbnails that can hide or show
  • user controlled large/smaller images in galleries in case they want to see the full uncropped version
  • large amount of text for image tags supported
Along with these the template will have all our features that come with every template like galleries, text sections, contact section, calendar, proofing, shopping cart, mini client site, sitezadmin, and much more.

Sneak Peak!

Posted on February 5, 2009

We just thought we’d give you all a sneak peak of our new portfolio launching next week.

(images courtesy of Kristen Morgan - lanierstar.com)

This new interface will be our first large image interface. That means that the image will resize to fit the browser, no matter how large the screen! You can also choose to have it stretch to fit the entire screen, or stay sized so no edges are cropped off. This template will have all the standard features including:

- unlimited galleries

- unlimited text sections with unlimited pages

- contact section

- calendar section

- internal proofing with shopping cart

-client mini sites

- music

- video section

- easy to use site admin to edit all content, colors, settings, etc.

It will also have the following template specific features:

- ability to choose to have your logo on the right or left

- ability to have images appear full screen (cropped) or sized as large as possible with the entire image seen

- ability to choose to have your info section text on the left or right

- artistic lines that will randomly be placed to the sides of content panels (can be turned off)

Stay tuned tomorrow to be introduced to Frida, and next week we will introduce the person who inspired our newest template :-)
